The Lucknow Super Giants invested a staggering Rs. 27 crore to acquire Rishabh Pant, setting a new IPL record. However, his performance in the 2025 season has been disappointing. As both the captain and wicket-keeper, Pant has only managed to accumulate 135 runs in 12 matches, showcasing a lack of effectiveness as both a batsman and a leader. Following a loss to the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday, LSG's hopes for the playoffs were dashed, leading to criticism of Pant's abilities in this format.
Simon Doull's Critique of Pant
Commenting on Pant's performance, Simon Doull stated, "This is his weakest format. There was a strong desire to recruit him, but he has had a disappointing season. He hasn't set the bar high, and his performance has been merely average for a T20 player. While he excels in Test matches, his T20 record does not reflect that potential."
Doull further elaborated on the team's decision to appoint a local captain, noting, "When teams consider an overseas captain, they often have multiple options. This can be a disadvantage if a player is out of form. Although Nicholas Pooran might not have been dropped if he were captain, this is a potential drawback of such a choice."
Rishabh Pant's IPL 2025 Statistics
In IPL 2025, Rishabh Pant has not met the high expectations set for him. With only 135 runs to his name, his average stands at a mere 12.27. His highest score this season is 63, which hints at his potential but also highlights his inconsistency. At just under 50 matches played, Pant has yet to score a century this season, and his strike rate of 100.00 indicates a slower pace than what fans typically anticipate from him.
